Data Mining is a broad term, defined as “the search for pattern correlations in unrelated tables or databases for the purposes of research.” The four common classes of task are:Classification: Like the separation of “Spam” and “Email,” the programs “Nearest Neighbor” and “Naïve Bayes,” classify data into predefined groupsClustering: Similar to Classification, but there are no pre-defined groups. these algorithms clusters like data together.Regression: Finds the source of repeated errors. I.E. “Genetic Modeling.”Association Rule learning: Sometimes called “Market Basket Analysis,” A common metaphor would be a supermarket that uses such techniques to see whether a person who buys diapers is more likely to buy baby food in the same trip.
